Tradco Sarlat Lever Handle – Review
I was recently asked to consult on the replacement of Passage Knob Sets for quite a beautiful home. The home’s atmosphere was light, airy and the décor tasteful.
All in all, a beautiful home that the owners were proud of.
However, the original knobs were falling off the doors and the latches were worn out. Poor quality, zinc die-cast, bargain basement, supposed “builders’ hardware” had been installed and the doors had been pre-drilled with a 54mm hole. I don’t know why the term “builder’s quality” is used, as I never a met a Builder that associated himself with such poor quality. Anyway, a 54mm hole in the door, would normally limit the selection of Door Furniture to some of the more pedestrian lower quality brands.
However, my recommendation was to install a “Tradco Sarlat Lever” on Round Rose in a Bright Chrome Plate finish, with 60mm Scar Plates and replace the latches at the same time. The Sarlat Lever Handle is an elegant classical pendant design that would be at home in Continental Europe. This design has been tried by many others, but Tradco have really nailed the execution of the design; the shape of the “Sarlat” is aesthetically attractive, that is, it is both tactile and visually balanced and retains character. The overall finish is really crisp and the construction of the product seems faultless. Construction wise, the Tradco Sarlat is made of solid forged brass; the lever stem is firm in the rose and the rose has a sufficient bearing thickness, that the lever doesn’t wobble. Little wonder that this product has a 10-year Mechanical Warranty, and being made of brass it’s suitable for both Internal and External Applications.
The client loved what I supplied and installed, as it just suited the house to a tee. From my own point of view, installing these Tradco Sarlat Levers in what could have been a challenged installation, was an absolute pleasure. Everything lined up perfectly. Of course, the tie- screws needed trimming and yes, there is a knack that comes with experience. But, it’s a lot easier to fit good quality hardware than poor-quality hardware and these will not be falling off the doors.
Value for money; the Tradco Sarlat is a winner!
For Artistic Hardware, this is now a must keep “stock item”. There a number of matching Pull Handles for Entry Doors, Flush Pulls for Sliding Doors, matching Escutcheons and Privacy Sets. And they are available on a variety of long plates for Entrance Door applications.
